Mandy had a crush on barman Ray Dobbs for many months, it was her dream to be married to him. The dream came true on September 25th 2001 as well when he needed the marriage to be able to stay in the country, so she suggested that he marry her. This he was reluctant to do since he had planned to marry Joanne. Mandy and Ray therefore married at the Registar Office and it was a convience marriage to Ray, though Mandy didn't see it that way.
Mandy found herself pregnant shortly after her 17th birthday party. During the course of nine months of pregnancy, she firstly claimed not to know who the father was, then said that Des was the father, and when she married Ray started claiming that it was then Ray's baby! In all honesty, it was Billy's baby all along. Mandy had tried to tell him a handful of times before but with no success. It was only hours before her own death that she finally told Billy after 10 months that it was his baby.
Mandy gave birth to a baby girl on January 31st 2002. Des played midwife when she'd come to see Ray at work and her baby decided to be born in the corridors of the hotel. Des managed to deliver the baby safely in his room just as paramedics arrived. She later named the baby Holly, not liking Oona's suggestion of Jade.
It wasn't all plain sailing on the way to delivering baby Holly - Mandy threw herself down the stairs at one point unable to cope with the idea of being pregnant and being a mother at the young age of 17. She borrowed money off Beena to fund an abortion but failed to actually go through with it. Des, after hearing about the abortion, said he could never forgive Mandy for having it since he thought it was his baby and wanted to leave the hotel for good.
Alas, Mandy died in March 2002. She was knocked down by a car in the hotel staff park after an argument with Ray during Bradley's leaving party (during which Doris also announced her retirement). Mandy pulled through with no damage, but unfortunately she had headaches as a result of the accident and died of a brain haemorrhage in her own bed. Oona and Dave found her on their own wedding anniversary.
Mandy was buried in the local church graveyard on 19th March 2002 and Des paid a moving tribute to her during the funeral service. As you would expect, her mother has not taken the death well at all.
