Character Quote:

"I love you Virginia. I always have done."

2003:

Rocky, as explained previously, comes from an army background. He's never had a proper family or relationship (although Phil Berry was a good friend but he's in prison now for a crime he didn't commit) and so hopes that his crush on Virginia will develop into love. A previous internet relationship - "Maureen28" didn't work out.

Rocky has the honour of being the first character in 2003 to have health trouble - he suffered a heart attack when he caught Suzie Samson stealing from Angel's private room.

The changes at the hotel are good in one way but hard for Rocky - he needs to work out where his allegiance lies - i.e, will he answer for the Samsons or his former boss Kate Russell?

2001/2:

One of Rocky's first tasks in this series of Crossroads was to install new CCTV equipment in an attempt to catch a thief in his/her tracks. This was unpopular with the staff, in particular Virginia because she was filmed in her underwear in the Staff Room!

He has found a good friend in Phil and an even better friend in Julie Noakes, Phil's mother. He asked her to move away from Newcastle and live with him in King's Oak but she turned this down. Although it was with good intent, it didn't feel right for Julie.

Rocky admired Virginia Raven, both for her work and for her in general. When she found a manfriend in Jonathan, Rocky found himself feeling jealous and finally admitted to her that he loved her. This announcement took her by surprise, though the only love she had for him was strictly professional. Regardless, poor Rocky was devastated when Virginia went away on a round-the-world cruise with Jonathan. A staff collection for a farewell present revealed how tight (or poorly paid) everybody was so he forked out himself for the present and was relegated into letting her go with Jonathan.

His one other love in life is with his pet boxer bitch, Ebony. A dog is a man's best friend which was certainly true for Rocky. When he took Ebony walkies in April 2002, she ran off and we learnt that she had been stolen for use in illegal dog fights. To be separated from the best friend he's ever had was a traumatic time for the Head Porter. He put out an appeal on MAD FM for Ebony's return.

They found the dog but she had been used as a kind of "warm-up" act for the main fighers in the dog ring. With poor Rocky almost in tears at the prospect of Ebony dying from her injuries, he ran Ebony to the vet with Phil where it was revealed that she had torn muscles and the shock could have killed her.

Nobody has had a more fruitful life than Rocky. He has an anecdote for pretty much everything. He fought in the Falklands War in 1982 with painful memories and war medals for his efforts. In November 2001, after hearing that Phil's brutal stepfather Brian would leave Julie alone for good if he was tipped off with a hefty sum of money, Rocky sold one of his war medals for £3,000 and used that to try and buy Brian off. It failed. He ended up with smashed cutley in his home after a struggle with Brian.

He immediately took a shine to Julie when Phil moved her into his house to try and escape Brian. There seemed to be an attraction between the two which Phil tried to encourage but because of Rocky's sensitive nature he didn't have the confidence to go for it but did on the night before Julie went home.

Doris taught Rocky the art of dancing the Tango in an attempt to help him sweep Virginia off her feet at a dance in mid 2001. Virginia agreed to go with him to the date but he was put off by the display of Line Dancing and so went back home, hence standing Virginia up. Boy did he suffer her wrath after that.
