Jane Rossington

Born in Derby on March 5th 1943, Jane Rossington's father, who was a bank manager, moved the family to Sutton Coldfield when she was young. Jane attended the local grammar school and trained at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama. She worked in repertory theatre in York and Sheffield. Amongst her early credits, she played Monica Downs in The Archers and Kate Ford, a nurse, in ATV's Emergency Ward 10. She then of course joined Crossroads in 1964.

She has played Jill from 1964-1988 and has since returned to Crossroads in 2001.

Jane lives with her husband David and has two grown up children, Harry and Sorrell, who played Sarah Jane in Old Crossroads for a while. When Jane is not busy working on Crossroads, her interests include gardening, tapestry and cookery.

"To have been part of a programme which made television history was wonderful - and to be back at Crossroads as the series is reborn is really exciting. ... It does feel a bit weird to be back, but I had to take the part when they offered it to me," said Jane in an interview for the original Carlton Press pack release. "I was incredibly curious about what it would be like - and I felt I owed it to Nolly to come back," said in tribute to the late Noele Gordon who played her on-screen mother Meg Mortimer.

"The set is incredible and the cast is fantastic. There were only eight of us originally, but for the new series there are more than 20. Despite all the theatre and television work I’ve done since Crossroads, people still ask me about it. Unfortunately, the fans remember scenes and stories in much more detail than I can!"
