"Previously on Crossroads"
-Jimmy Samson died following a relapse after surgery to remove a
bullet
-Angel blamed Jimmy's death on Max and his business dealings
-Virginia confessed that if Rocky were to propose again, then she
would accept
-Scott rowed with his father over his sexuality, but Tracey later
accepted it
-Kate and Billy nearly kissed

It was morning at Crossroads Hotel
Angel was sat with Betty in the Samson apartment
"Oh Angel I'm so sorry, I had no idea" Betty was saying, trying to
remain strong for Angels sake
"It was all very sudden" Angel said, trying not to cry
"Do you want to talk about it Angel...remember, I know what losing a
childs like" Betty's voice was wavering
"I just can't imagine what life will be like without him.....without
his smile beaming in the morning...you know sometimes, that was all
that got me through the day...." Angel tailed off and began to cry
Betty leapt forward and hugged her "It'll be alright Angel, things
will get better"
"How will they? My son is dead Betty and all everyone seems to say
it will get better"
"But I'm telling you Angel, they will.....you will never forget him,
but things will get easier"
"I hope your right Betty" Angel said through her sobs
Betty was now letting her tears roll "Just don't shut out people
close to you"
"I won't Betty, I've still got Ryan and Cleo...."
".....and Max" Betty said
Angel stopped crying, it was like she had a switch
"I haven't got Max Betty...I will never forgive him this time"
"For what?" Betty had also stopped crying, although she was still
very emotional
"Well, it's his fault isn't it? If it hadn't been for his feuds and
dodgy dealings, Jimmy would never have been shot!"
"Oh Angel....don't shut him out, not now, you should support each
other at a time like this"
"No Betty....it's his fault, I will never let him back here..."
"OK Angel, its alright to be feeling anger, its a perfectly natural
way of grief"
"This isn't grief Betty"
Betty paused. She didn't want to argue with Angel and so thought it
best to change the subject
"I assume your mother knows?" Betty said
"I think so....we didn't see her much at the hospital yesterday, she
was sat with Sister Grace, the hospital haven't managed to contact
her sister. But after I left last night, I think Max told her"
"Where is she now?"
"She's in bed, she came in very late"
"And who else has been told?"
"Kate knows" Angel almost spat out those words "She told Ryan and
Cleo. Thats it I think"
"Well, I can tell Belle if you like.....and the rest of the staff."
"No Betty! No one else must know yet, not until I'm
ready.....especially not that Wise girl"
"But she was Jimmy's half sister"
"Betty, to me she is and will always be a simple chambermaid....not
a part of this family"
"Alright Angel, if your sure....I must get down and see how the
hotels running"
"Yes Betty, we musn't have things falling apart"
Betty kissed Angel on the cheek and left through the door
Angel got up from the chair and poured herself a glass of whiskey
She drank it in one go and looked around the apartment
As she looked around she found a picture of her Max on a table top
She shouted as she hurled the glass at it "What Have You Done!?" and
slumped on the floor crying

On the reception, Virginia was on the phone "Thank you Ms Jacobs,
I'll have the room reserved...when will you be arriving?....later
today? Alright then Ms Jacobs, I'll note you down in the
book.....thank you Ms Jacobs...Goodbye"
Kate came through from her office "Another booking Virginia?"
"Yes Mrs Russell, a charming lady, Ms Jacobs"
"Well carry on Virginia, keep up the good work"
"I will Mrs Russell......any news on young Sister Grace yet?"
"Don't ask me Virginia....its not my place to say"
Kate walked away from the desk and over to the lifts
Betty came down the stairs from the Samsons apartment...she looked
pale and worn out
"Betty!" Virginia called "I'm so sorry about Jimmy....any news on
young Sister Grace?"
"Who told you about Jimmy?" Betty said abruptly
"Well I sort of guessed..."
"Well, don't go spreading it around, Angel doesn't want people
knowing....and next time, don't go around poking you nose into other
peoples business!"
Betty walked past into her office
Virginia's eyes narrowed and muttered to herself "Shut you lying
little...."
"Virginia!" Rocky called as he came through the double doors
"Good morning Rocky, how are you this morning?"
"I'm very well thank you Virginia and yourself"
"I'm fine and dandy thank you!" Virginia was surprisingly happy,
like a teenage school girl with a crush
"Have you seen Patty this morning Virginia?"
Virginias smile faded
"Why would I?" she said coldly
"I just thought you might have seen her get back from the
hospital...I heard about poor Jimmy Samson..I can't imagine what Mrs
Samson must be going through...any news Sister Grace?"
"No Rocky why would I know? Do you think I go prying into other
peoples business?"
"No Virginia, I was just asking whether you knew......"
"Well I don't"
"Virginia, is anything wrong? You've been acting very strange
lately....your not...well...."
"Rocky Wesson, are you implying that I'm going through
the.....well.....the change?!?"
"No Virginia...not at all" Rocky said coming over very embarrased
"Rocky could I have a word?" Betty had appeared from her office and
was calling
"Of course Betty, I'll be right in" Rocky called back "Listen
Virginia we'll talk later....I have to say I don't like your
attitude just lately!" Rocky walked over towards Betty's office.
Virginia put her head in the hands "What have I done?" she said to
herself

Angel was still slumped on the floor
Patty entered wearing a mint green dressing gown
"Angel, whatever are you doing on the floor?"
"I beg your pardon?"
" I asked why you were slumped on the floor....you look wilted
Angel, whats wrong?"
"My sons just died, and you ask me whats wrong?" Angel screamed
Patty's jaw dropped and she stared at Angel in disbelief
"Oh my God Angel I had no idea" Patty went towards Angel to hug her,
but Angel pulled away
"Don't mother.....you've never hugged me before why bother now?"
"Angel, don't say that, of course I've hugged you...."
"No mother....just leave me alone"
Patty walked out of the living room, just as Cleo entered through
the front door
"Cleo darling where have you been all night?"
"Well after you stormed out of the hospital last night, Dad thought
you might want some time alone...he booked us all into guest rooms"
Angel face turned very stony "Oh I see...not content with taking one
son away from me, he's trying to turn all my other children against
me?"
"No Mum! We all thought you need time alone. Why are you being like
this?"
"Being like what? I'm just speaking the truth here Cleo, something
no-one else seems to understand around this place!"
"Don't shut us out Mum....you need us as much as we need you right
now...."
"I'm sorry Cleo......I'm not blaming you here.....you need to know
the truth about your father!"
"Mum, I'll be here for you, I always will be, but I'm not letting
you turn me against Dad....I had better go"
"No Cleo please stay" Angel was worrying she had isolated her
daughter "I'm sorry....I won't mention it again"
"Promise?"
"I promise darling" Angel pulled herself up from the floor and
hugged her daughter

Belle and Phil were cleaning one of the rooms
"I hope Jimmy's going to be OK Phil, I couldn't cope if anything
happened"
"It'll be fine Belle, nothing bad's going to happen....well not with
you anyway"
"When's Mum coming?" Belle asked, sensing Phil was talking about
Lola
"I'm not sure Belle, probably tomorrow though......I only phoned
yesterday, and you know what Mum's like!"
"Yeah....what do you think's up with her?"
"I'm not sure....it seems to be when we mention Danny though"
At that moment, Max came through the door
"Oh Mr Samson....." Phil was puzzled
"Oh its OK girls, I stayed in here last night....just carry on,
theres a couple of things I need to pick up"
"Is everything alright Mr Samson?" Belle asked
"Belle.....oh no....has no-one told you?"
Belle could sense something was wrong and tears sprang to her eyes
"Told me what Mr Samson? Whats happened? Is it Jimmy? Whats
happened?"
"He.....died Belle. Jimmy died yesterday afternoon."
"No, he can't have done! He was alright Mr Samson, he was fine!"
Belle was crying
"He had a relapse....he died peacefully.....he wasn't in pain..."
Belle fell into Phil's arms, and Phil tried calming her down
Max exited the room, not knowing what else to say to her

Helen and Virginia were sat at a table in the pub
"Helen, I've made the most awful mistake" Virginia said
"What have you done now Mum?" Helen replied
"It's Rocky.....well, we had an arguement" Virginia said looking
very embarrassed
"What about Mum? You didn't tell him how you felt did you?" Helen
asked, looking quite worried
"No Helen! Don't be so silly! He was looking for Patty and I......"
"......got jealous?"
"Yes" said Virginia quietly
"And? What else happened?" Helen asked, knowing there was more to it
"Well.....he thinks I'm going through the....well....you know. After
that kiss yesterday, and then me shouting he thinks I'm having mood
swings"
Helen burst out laughing
"It's not funny Helen! I'm very fond of Rocky and I don't want to
ruin things!"
"Then you should tell him how you feel....only then will you know
how things are going to go!"
"Perhaps your right Helen" Virginia contemplated "Perhaps your right"

Back at reception, Virginia came through the automatic doors
"Afternoon Mrs Russell, I'm back from lunch!" Virginia called to
Kate who was in her office
"Thats good Virginia, carry on"
Max came down the stairs and went into Kates office
"Kate, could I have a word please?" Max asked
"Yes, of course Max, come in, sit down" Kate said sympathetically
"I was wondering.....with Angel being so depressed, I really think I
should be with my family...."
"How are you all?" Kate said, cutting in
"Its hit Angel very hard, she very unbalanced....but the rest of us
are coping.....its very distressing, but we're coping"
"Of course its distressing Max, grieving always is, especially for
one of your children. Anyway.....you were saying...."
"Well, with Angel being so emotional, we really all need to be
together and I'm not going to have much time on my hands....and I
was wondering.....would you be able to arrange a funeral?" Max asked
"Of course Max....if its helps, then of course I will....when do you
want it?"
"Well, I hoping on Friday" Max said
"OK Max, I'll sort it"
"Thanks Kate"
"Anytime"
Max left the office, and Kate sighed
She picked up the phone and dialled
"Hello....could I speak to Mr Price please?"

The automatic doors opened as Max went up the stairs
A familiar face walked across the reception
"ello.....Ms Jacobs.....I rang earlier" she said in her trademark
cockney accent
"Your Ms Jacobs?" Virginia said in disbelief
"Thats me"
"Right, heres your key, your in room 26. Enjoy your stay at
Crossorads"
"I will love, I will"
Phil and Belle walked out of the lifts, Belle had her head hung low
She looked alarmed at the figure stood at reception
"Mum?" she called out
The figure turned round
"Thats me love...Wanda Wise is back!"

BREAK

Wanda, Phil and Belle were sat in room 26
"Do you think you should be staying in the hotel Mum?" Phil asked
"Look love, I'm here under the name Ms Jacobs, no-ones gonna know
its me if they don't find out" Wanda replied
"Well, I don't think Angel and Max will snooping too much into whos
staying at the hotel Mum" Phil said before glancing over at Belle
Belle wasn't really listening to the conversation, she seemed very
distant
"What's up love?" Wanda asked looking at Belle "You've got a face
like thunder!"
Belle broke into tears and bolted from the room
Phil snapped at Wanda "Now look what you've done!"
"Well, come on, how am I supposed to know whats on in her head!"
Wanda pleaded "If you don't tell me things then I don't know!"
"Jimmy Samsons just died! You remember Jimmy? Her half brother?"
Phil had raised her voice
"Oh no! Oh my god, what have I done?"
"I just hope you have better luck with your other daughter!"
"Where is Lola anyhow?" Wanda inquired
"She's working I think....but hadn't you better go and look for
Belle?"
"I'll do it later love, I wanna unpack....settle in a bit!"

Betty was sat in her office when the door flew open
"Why didn't you tell me Betty?" Belle shouted
"I'm sorry love, but Angel made me promise I wouldn't" Betty replied
"What sort of spineless woman is she? He was my half brother Betty,
my half brother!"
"I know love, I know...."
"No Betty, you don't know, I'm going to see Angel about this!"
Belle stormed out of the office
"Belle! Thats not a good idea! Belle!!" Betty called after her

Angel was on completely alone in the Samson apartment on the sofa,
with a glass of whiskey in her hand
There was a loud knock on the door
"Oh who's that now!" she said to herself impatiently
She got up and opened the door
Belle barged straight past Angel into the living room
"Excuse me! Get out of this room now! You have no right to be here!"
Angel shouted
"Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you want me to know!" Belle was
furious and screaming at Angel
"Because as far as I'm concerned it is no business of yours!" Angel
said very sincerely
"He was my half brother! Of course its my business....you can't just
shut me out...I'm your step daughter!"
"YOU ARE NOT!" Angel too was screaming as well "To me you are and
always be a puny little chamber maid.....nothing more. Now get out
of my house!"
Betty arrived at the door, clearly out of breath after running after
Belle
"Belle, please, just leave, you need time to calm down...." Betty
said breathlessly
"Calm down? I don't need to calm down!" she said, still shouting
"Why did you tell her Betty? I specifically asked you not too!"
Angel was quite angry now as well
"I didn't Angel! I don't know how she found out,but it certainly
wasn't through me!" Betty was aggitated now that Angel wasn't
trusting her
"Then how did she find out?"
"Max told me! You remember Max? My father?" Belle was still fuming
"Yes, well you two low lifes deserve each other after what he did to
Jimmy...your welcome to him!" Angel sneered
Belle promptly slapped Angel across the face and ran from the
apartment
"I'd leave it Angel....she's really hurting you know" Betty said
"Your right, why am I bothering to care about her?"
Betty looked at Angel, but decided not to say anything...she had
obviously misread what Betty had been saying.
"Betty, I need your help with something" Angel asked
"Anything Angel, you only have to ask"
"I need help..." Angel took a deep breath "...to arrange the funeral"
"Oh....Angel.....I guess Max didn't tell you....." Betty was looking
to the floor. She knew Angel wasn't going to like what she had to say
"Told me what?" Angel was getting worked up again
"He asked Kate to arrange everything.....he thought you wouldn't be
up to it and he himself wanted to support the family" Betty was
prepared for what came next
"He's done what?" Angel was fuming....she was shouting at her full
volume

In reception, Virginia had just dealt with another check in
"....we all hope you enjoy your stay here at Crossroads"
Rocky came through the automatic doors
"Rocky!" Virginia called "Can I have a quick word please?"
"As long as your not going to shout at me again Virginia"
"Well...thats what I want to talk to you about....I want to
apologise, I've not been been myself lately" Virginia lied
"Thats quite alright Virginia, I completely understand..."
"And just for the record I'm not...well....you know"
"Yes, well I'm sorry that ever crossed my mind Virginia, it was
ridiculous"
"Thats quite alright....how about a drink at the pub after work,
just to say sorry? My treat of course"
"That'll be lovely Virginia, I'll meet you there...now I must go and
see Betty....."
Rocky walked away and Virginia smiled to herself


Angel came running down the stairs
"Virginia, wheres Kate?" she asked sternly
"In her office I think Mrs Samson, why whatevers the matter?"
"Oh just mind your own business for once woman!" Angel shouted
Virginia was taken aback. She followed Angel with her eyes in the
office, staring in disbelief

Kate was on the phone
"....yes, thank you for your time...goodbye"
"What the hell do you think your doing?" Angel shouted
"I beg your pardon Angel?"
"Going around arranging other people funerals? It's NOT your place
to arrange my sons funeral!"
"Max asked me to arrange it for you, I've booked the church for
Friday, and the wake will be held......"
"Cancel it. Cancel it all!! I don't want my sons goodbye to be
arranged by one of the hotel skivies!"
"Look, Angel, your distressed I know its a difficult time, I'm not
going to argue with you."
"Good! Just cancel it all!"
Angel stormed out of the office, as Virginia entered through the door
"I can't believe that woman! After all your hard work Mrs
Russell....." Virginia began
"Just leave it Virginia. Just leave it"

Belle was sat by the Angel statue, crying
Wanda aproached her
"I'm sorry love, I didn't know" she said
"Yeah, well now you do!" Belle said coldly
"Look, I'm not here to pick a fight with you love....I wanna say I'm
sorry"
"Why does everyone hate me Mum?" Belle said
"Don't be so silly girl!"
"Angel didn't even tell me Jimmy was dead. I found out after a
chance meeting with Max.....otherwise I never would have known. She
called me a lowlife and a puny chambermaid.....and the awful
thing...its the truth"
Wanda got up and hugged Belle "Don't be so silly love! I love you
and you've got two great sisters.....I know I haven't always been
there, but I am now. Sounds to me like Jimmy had a good release from
that old cow!"
"What did you say?" Some of the anger Belle had shown in the Samson
apartment was coming
"Well, he must be laughing now! Gettin away from Lady of the Manor!"
Wanda laughed to herself
"How heartless can you be?" Belle got up and ran from the Statue
"Oh love I didn't mean it! I'm sorry!"

Later that evening Angel was once again alone in her apartment with
a glass of whiskey
Max opened the door
"Hello Angel"
"Get out!" Angel said "Your not welcome here anymore!"
"Look, can't we just talk....."
"No Max, not this time. I'm not having you twisting my mind this
time Max...your not warping my mind again!"
"I'm not here to warp your mind Angel I just want to talk"
"I've got nothing to say to you Max.....you killed my son......your
not coming back here....just leave"
"No Angel, I'm not leaving....."
"GET OUT MAX!" she screamed and for the second time that day Angel
hurled her glass at Max
He dived out of the way, got up and ran out the door
Angel got up and went over to a cupboard. She pulled out a photo
album and a pair of scissors.
She poured another glass of whiskey and sat down
She opened the album at the first page and took out a picture of the
family, taken the day Jimmy and Ryan came home
She took a swig of drink and began hacking at the picture
A part of the photo fell to the floor....the part with Max in it
Angel put the photo back in, turned the page and removed another
picture.
She took a swig of drink and began cutting at the picture

At the pub, Rocky and Virginia were sat at a table
"Well isn't this nice Rocky?" Virginia said smiling
"Yes Virginia, it does make a nice change" Rocky said, although less
enthusiastically than Virginia
"Actually Rocky....I got you here under false pretences....."
"Oh what now Virginia? Your not going to shout again are you?"
"Rocky Wesson! No I am not going to shout at you!" Virginia said
"Well, what is Virginia?"
"Rocky.....this isn't going to be easy for me to say...."
"Come on Virginia, you know you can tell me anything!"
"Right.....Rocky....I'm in love with you."
