An interesting point came up on the discussion forum recently - was Scott Booth in reality a Samson?

The character of Scott in Crossroads is one of being seemingly immortal (he'd already survived appendicitis, dehydration, mumps, hangovers and a burning shed by the end of Mark II) yet defying Mother Nature in the space of twelve months (the recast saw Kieran Hardcastle, a green eyed blonde boy actor, having been replaced by the headhunted Matthew Maude, a brown eyed black haired young adult for Mark III and viewers asked to believe that Scott had "grown" naturally).

When you look at the family ties and start exploring them, Scott is a huge part of the entire Crossroads Mark III hotel. Mark II of Crossroads established that Victor Barnes is Jake Booth's father which naturally makes him Scott's grandfather. Now Vic is also Max's brother, which makes Scott to be Max's great nephew and Angel is Scott's great aunt! This is also on top of the fact that Kate's children, Mark and Nicola, are also related to Scott by the title of Uncle and Aunt, not that Scott ever called them by this.

Now if we follow the family links, it goes even deeper: In theory, by his being the great nephew of Max and Angel, Scott is thus related to the rest of the Samson family including Belle Wise who of course was Max's daughter. So by being related to Belle Wise as well, the relationship should spread to her sisters and their mother.

There are more links to an even bigger family (albeit ridiculously distant now and possibly in law) for Scott if you explore Mark II: Nicola Russell married Phil Berry towards the end of Mark II thus changed her name. So now Phil has moved into Scott's family circle so once again in theory this expands to his mother Julie, his baby brother Stuart and the deceased Brian.

This of course is just what was established in Mark II and Mark III. If you were to start exploring what might have been, you can build Sarah-Jane (and Jill (also Meg?) and Adam) into Scott's family circle, had Sarah married Mark.

Likewise, if Kate and Billy had married, then into all of this comes the Stocks - Dave, Oona, and Mandy's baby Holly, as well as Ray Dobbs (he was married to Mandy).

Finally, if the series had been left to run for long enough over, say, a few years, Scott and Rio, if serious enough about each other, may well have married. Now this would have also pulled Virginia and Helen into the circle, also Rocky if he'd been brave enough to admit his love to Virginia.

Phew!

With thanks to the posters on the forum in the "General Wondering Leads To Some Revelations!" thread in the Cat In The Moon sub-forum.
